Research Project:

My project focuses on the malignant alienation of psychosis in mental healthcare settings and how this can have negative impacts in both service-users and staff. Malignant alienation has typically investigated poor care as a precedent for suicide within clinical psychiatric settings in mental health. There is limited research focusing on psychosis and not only malignant alienation as a precedent for suicide, but also for reduced rates of recovery and staff burnout.

I aim to bring an element of cultural sensitivity in this, hoping to hone in on spiritual psychosis and religious psychosis, how these are treated differently in care systems, and how this can be amended to avoid malignant alienation, thus informing policy in future.
